US steel mill shipments up 7.5 percent in March

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2019, US steel mills shipped 8,327,990 net tons, a 7.5 percent increase from the 7,744,304 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2019, and a 0.3 percent increase from the 8,299,418 net tons shipped in March 2018. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2019 totaled 24,152,051 net tons, a 2.9 percent increase compared to 2018 shipments of 23,461,349 net tons for the first three months of the year.

A comparison of March shipments to the previous month of February shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 9 percent; hot rolled sheets, up 8 percent; and cold rolled sheets, up 6 percent.
