US steel mill shipments decrease in December, increase for full-year 2017

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of December 2017, US steel mills shipped 7,328,247 net tons, a 1.2 percent decrease from the 7,419,946 net tons shipped in the previous month, November 2017, and a 2.2 percent increase from the 7,173,245 net tons shipped in December 2016. 

Shipments for the full-year 2017 are 90,886,717 net tons, a 5.0 percent increase compared to 2016 full-year shipments of 86,533,341 net tons.

 A comparison of December shipments to the previous month of November shows the following changes:  hot rolled sheets, up 6 percent; cold rolled sheets, down 7 percent; and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 8 percent.
