US steel industry gives up AD claim on Japanese CR
The
US steel industry decided to accept the US Court of International Trade's decision that imports of Japanese cold rolled steel did not injure the
US steel industry, reports the
Japan Steel Information Center. The US Court of International Trade's judgment upheld a March 2000 finding by the US International Trade Commission (USITC).
Members of the
US steel industry had filed a complaint with the USITC in 1999, claiming that
Japan was dumping cold rolled steel on the US market. The
US steel industry appealed the USITC's finding of “no injury” to the US Court of International Trade. The Court sent the case back to the USITC and asked that it be reviewed again. USITC maintained its initial finding of “no injury”, whereupon the US Court of International Trade affirmed the decision. The
US steel industry decided against appealing in US Federal Court, thereby bringing the case to a close.
The Japanese steel industry expressed their relief about finally resolving the six-year case. Japanese steel exporters are now more confident on cold rolled steel exports to US.
