US raw steel production bumps up 2.4 percent

US raw steel production rose again last week (ended April 15) with output increasing 2.4 percent from the previous week. In the week prior (ended April 8), US raw steel production increased a mere 0.39 percent compared to the week before.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,861,000 nt last week. This figure represents a 2.4 percent increase from the 1,818,000 produced in the prior week, and is up 6 percent from the 1,755,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.1 percent in the week ending April 15, compared to 74.3 percent in the prior week and 72.6 percent in the same week last year.
