US raw steel output down 1.9 percent

Data released this week by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) shows that raw steel production in the United States for the week ended November 11, 2006, dropped 1.9 percent from the previous week. Estimated raw steel production for the week ended Nov. 11 was 1.868 million net tons (nt), compared to 1.906 million nt produced during the previous week. The amount of steel produced during the week ended Nov. 11 was also down from the same week of the previous year, during which 2.013 million nt were produced. Meanwhile, year-to-date US steel production as of Nov. 11 reached 92.446 million nt, up from the 88.717 million nt produced during the corresponding period of 2005.
