US mill shipments increase in July, led by CRC

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of July 2009, US steel mills hipped 5,271,000 net tons (nt), a 9.0 percent increase from the 4,797,000 nt shipped in the previous month, and a 42.5 percent decrease from the 9,175,000 nt shipped in July 2008.

A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 5.8 percent; hot rolled sheet, up 6.0 percent; and cold rolled sheet, up 15.9 percent.

AISI is comprised of 24 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent approximately 75 percent of both US and North American steel capacity.
