US iron and steel scrap exports down 15.5 percent in January-November

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in November 2014 exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.35 million mt, rising by 1.9 percent from October and up 1.5 percent compared to November 2013. The value of these exports decreased by 9.3 percent compared to October and by 1.8 percent year on year, amounting to $496.76 million.

Meanwhile, in the January-November period of last year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 14.3 million mt, decreasing by 15.5 percent year on year.

In November, Taiwan replaced Turkey as the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 231,989. Turkey received 182,469 mt of scrap imports from the US in the given month, decreasing by 56.3 percent compared to October and indicating a 31.5 percent decline year on year. Turkey was followed by China, which imported 61,330 mt of scrap from  the US in the given month. Meanwhile, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US in the first 11 months of the year, receiving 3.4 million mt, down 28.2 percent year on year.
