According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 154,970 mt in March 2017, up 52.9 percent from February but down 14.6 percent from March 2016 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $96.1 million in March 2017, compared to $60.7 million in the previous month and $81.6 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most HRC from Canada in March, with 78,371 mt, compared to 57,577 mt in February and 66,818 mt in March 2016. Other top sources of imported HRC in March include Korea, with 25,948 mt; Japan, with 20,048 mt; Egypt, with 5,567 mt; Turkey, with 4,909 mt; and Germany, with 3,959 mt.
