US HRC imports down 9.4 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 141,531 mt in February 2020, down 9.4 percent from January but up 6.1 percent from February 2019 levels. By value HRC imports totaled $84.0 million in February 2020, compared to $85.9 million in the previous month and $96.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in February, with 86,558 mt, compared to 114,801 mt in January and 51,338 mt in February 2019. Other top sources of imported HRC in February include Korea, with 43,154 mt; Mexico, with 5,442 mt; and Germany, with 2,310 mt.
