US HRC imports down 6.3 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 124,921 mt in March 2019, down 6.3 percent from February and down 44.0 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $88.0 million in March 2018, compared to $96.5 million in the previous month and $151.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in March, with 56,877 mt, compared to 51,338 mt in February and 104,799 mt in March 2018. Other top sources of imported HRC in March include Korea, with 20,329 mt; Mexico, with 10,807 mt; Netherlands, with 5,596 mt; Germany, with 4,933 mt; and Serbia, with 4,402 mt.
