US HRC imports down 14.3 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 104,961 mt in April 2020, down 14.3 percent from March and down 27.7 percent from April 2019 levels. By value HRC imports totaled $62.5 million in April 2020, compared to $73.7 million in the previous month and $96.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in April, with 49,928 mt, compared to 85,265 mt in March and 49,426 mt in April 2019. Other top sources of imported HRC in April include Korea, with 37,768 mt; New Zealand, with 5,070 mt; Netherlands, with 4,307 mt; and Mexico, with 2,210 mt.
