US HDG imports up 6.3 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 291,736 mt in July 2017, up 6.3 percent from June and up 23.6 percent from July 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $262.2 million in July 2017, compared to $248.1 million in the previous month and $182.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in July, with 73,431 mt, compared to 70,709 mt in June and 76,132 mt in July 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in July include Turkey, with 47,565 mt; South Africa, with 30,245 mt; Taiwan, with 20,773 mt; UAE, with 15,672 mt; and Thailand, with 11,242 mt.
