US HDG imports up 29.7 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip totaled 187,911 mt in May 2023, up 29.7 percent from April but down 11.9 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $187.3 million in May 2023, compared to $209.7 million in April and $324.9 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in May, with 74,029 mt, compared to 76,389 mt in April and 78,893 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported HDG in May include South Korea, with 19,993 mt; South Africa, with 17,846 mt; Mexico, with 17,537 mt; and Brazil, with 13,236 mt.
