According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 215,577 mt in April 2019, up 29.3 percent from March but down 32.1 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $205.2 million in April 2018, compared to $160.0 million in the previous month and $289.4 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in April, with 70,224 mt, compared to 69,487 mt in March and 97,650 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in April include Brazil, with 28,073 mt; Vietnam, with 17,791 mt; Austria, with 16,081 mt; and UAE, with 12,737 mt
