US HDG imports increase 3.03 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 240,217 mt in September, up 3.03 percent from August but up 20.4 percent from September 2015 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $189.5 million, compared to $182.4 million in August and $166.2 million in September 2015.
 
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in September, with 80,999 mt, compared to 87,776 mt in August and 69,666 mt in September 2015. Other top sources of imported HDG in September include Vietnam, with 48,693 mt; Taiwan, with 21,666 mt; Brazil, with 15,004 mt; and Korea, with 14,015 mt. With the exception of Vietnam, import tonnages from these countries in September reflected a month-on-month decline.
