US HDG imports down 5.6 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 166,721 mt in March 2019, down 7.1 percent from February and down 34.7 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $160.0 million in March 2018, compared to $173.2 million in the previous month and $237.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in March, with 69,487 mt, compared to 62,082 mt in February and 87,878 mt in March 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in March include Vietnam, with 18,956 mt; Taiwan, with 16,768 mt; Korea, with 12,449 mt; Australia, with 10,706 mt; and Mexico, with 8,878 mt.
