US HDG imports down 2.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 185,460 mt in August 2019, down 2.9 percent from July and down 17.1 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $181.7 million in August 2019, compared to $182.3 million in the previous month and $224.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in August, with 77,446 mt, compared to 71,582 mt in July and 82,065 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in August include Korea, with 24,100 mt; Taiwan, with 12,558 mt; Vietnam, with 11,625 mt; and Germany, with 9,578 mt.
