US HDG imports down 0.7 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 222,192 mt in September 2018, down 0.7 percent from August and down 9.4 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $217.6 million in September 2018, compared to $224.8 million in the previous month and $222.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in September, with 70,794 mt, compared to 73,394 mt in August and 61,393 mt in September 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in September include Vietnam, with 34,904 mt; Taiwan, with 16,493 mt; Mexico, with 11,298 mt; Korea, with 10,336 mt; and Germany, with 10,030 mt.
