Local news reported Friday that the US Federal Highway Administration said construction of a proposed bridge linking Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario will be allowed to use steel from both the US and Canada.

Although the proposed bridge will be financed by the Canadian government, there is a standing policy requiring that only US steel be used for infrastructure projects in the US. The waiver to this policy was sought by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and went into effect this week.
