According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 150,455 mt in July 2018, up 11.9 percent from June but down 31.7 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $129.3 million in July 2018, compared to $111.7 million in the previous month and $163.2 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most CRC from Vietnam in July, with 28,244 mt, compared to 19,269 mt in June and 5,902 mt in July 2017. Other top sources of imported CRC in July include Canada, with 26,349 mt; Australia, with 25,541 mt; Mexico, with 15,074 mt; Turkey, with 10,695 mt; and United Kingdom, with 9,312 mt.
