US CRC imports down 5.7 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 207,791 mt in August 2017, down 5.7 percent from July but up a marginal 0.04 percent from August 2016 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $156.7 million in August 2017, compared to $163.2 million in the previous month and $136.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Russia in August, with 32,723 mt, compared to 45,127 mt in July and zero tonnage in August 2016. Other top sources of imported CRC in August include Canada, with 31,519 mt; Turkey, with 31,307 mt; Australia, with 20,866 mt; Mexico, with 17,660 mt; and Taiwan, with 10,023 mt.
