US CRC imports down 4.4 percent in January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 112,340 mt in January 2020, down 4.4 percent from December and down 19.4 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $86.6 million in January 2020, compared to $90.3 million in the previous month and $114.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Canada in January, with 47,080 mt, compared to 42,898 mt in December and 23,996 mt in January 2019. Other top sources of imported CRC in January include Australia, with 20,055 mt; Korea, with 15,474 mt; Mexico, with 14,331 mt; and Vietnam, with 3,755 mt.
