US cold finished bar imports down 0.8 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold finished bar totaled 8,401 mt in April 2023, down 0.8 percent from March and down 20.2 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, merchant bar imports totaled $16.6 million in April 2023, compared to $17.4 million in March and $19.6 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most merchant bar from Canada in April, with 1,673 mt, compared to 1,936 mt in March and 544 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported merchant bar in April include Germany, with 1,611 mt; and Italy, with 1,589 mt.
