Russia-based leading global iron ore and hot briquetted iron (HBI) producer Metalloinvest has announced that its subsidiary Ural Steel has successfully passed an audit carried out on its production of railway wheel steel billets with 455 mm diameter to become a supplier to Vyksa Steel Works (VMZ), a subsidiary of Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK). Ural Steel's railway wheel steel billets will be used in VMZ's production of solid-rolled railway wheels. The audit was held as part of the certification of VMZ's railway wheels for export to the European Union.

The audit was carried out by experts of the European certification body Transportowy Dozor Techniczny (Poland) and a representative of VMZ.

Metalloinvest’s domestic sales director Andrey Prosyanik stated that Metalloinvest and OMK are continuing the successful implementation of a large-scale joint project: VMZ is gradually moving from using its own open-hearth steel production to sourcing steel billets from Ural Steel. Mr. Prosyanik added that the two companies have signed a 10-year contract for the supply of 455 mm diameter steel billets and are completing renovation work on Ural Steel's production facilities.
