Russia-based Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC) has announced the completion of the second stage of reconstruction at its subsidiary Serov Steel Works, which included the installation of a new vacuum degasser.
The new vacuum degasser was supplied by the Italian-based plantmaker Danieli, and is to operate in test mode until the end of October. The value of the project amounted to €10 million.
The new equipment will allow Serov Steel Works to degas all special steels and, most importantly, those intended for the automobile industry and machine building. The new steel products will be of high quality, with low content of nitrogen, hydrogen, sulphur and other impurities.
As regards the future, UMMK plans to continue its expansion project at Serov Steel Works by completing the construction of limestone burning furnaces during next year, and later by building a new billet concaster and a new rolling mill.
