The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first nine months of 2007.
Accordingly, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) increased its finished steel products output by two percent, its pig iron production by 0.1 percent, pipe production by 22.3 percent and agglomerate production by 11.9 percent year on year in the first nine months of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 4.1 million, 4.05 million, 96,600 and 9.43 million. However, Ilyich saw a 0.7 decrease in its crude steel production to 5.18 million metric tons.
During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 6.4 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a seven percent rise in crude steel production, a 10.5 percent increase in pig iron production, but a 0.1 percent drop in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 4.13 million, 4.66 million, 4.01 million and 1.45 million.
In the first nine months of 2007, Istil produced 725,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 20.6 percent, and 767,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 18.4 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2006.
In January-September 2007, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its finished steel production by seven percent to 2.64 million metric tons, its crude steel production by 3.8 percent to 2.94 million metric tons, its pig iron production by 6.8 percent to 2.41 million metric tons, but decreased its agglomerate production by 4.1 percent to 3.7 million metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.
During the given period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih registered a 4.6 percent increase in its finished steel production, a 10 percent increase in its crude steel production, an 8.5 percent rise in its pig iron production and a 6.4 percent increase in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 5.33 million, 6.11 million, 5.44 million and 9.001 million.
In the first nine months of 2007, Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant (Makeevsk) produced 801,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 30.5 percent, 1.34 million metric tons of crude steel - up 16.4 percent, and 1.43 million metric tons of pig iron - up 52.4 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.
Finally, in the January- September 2007 period Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 2.3 percent, crude steel production by 1.6 percent, pig iron production by 2.1 percent and its agglomerate production by 2.5 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.8 million, 3.38 million, 2.73 million and 4.28 million.
