The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary
production results for January 2007.
Accordingly,
Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (
Ilyich) increased it finished steel products output by 9.2 percent, its crude steel
production by 11.4 percent, its
pig iron production by 12.1 percent and its
pipe production by 2.6 percent year on year in January 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 489,000, 605,000, 473,000 and 3,900. However, the mill registered a 3.9 percent decrease in its agglomerate
production to 983,000 metric tons during the same period.
During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 2.7 percent decrease in its finished steel products output, a 1.7 percent drop in its crude steel
production, a 3 percent decrease in its agglomerate
production , but a 2.2 percent increase in its
pig iron production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 397,000, 468,000, 164,000 and 412,000.
Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) saw a 14.9 percent rise in its finished steel products output, an eight percent increase in its crude steel output, a 1.6 percent increase in its
pig iron production and a 3.8 percent decrease in its agglomerate
production year on year in January 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 277,000, 324,000, 245,000 and 437,000.
In January 2007, Enakievsk MZ (EMZ) produced 245,000 metric tons of finished steel products – up 18.9 percent, 222,000 metric tons of crude steel – up 1.8 percent, 193,000 metric tons of
pig iron – up 2.7 percent, and 195,000 metric tons of agglomerate – down 5.8 percent compared to January 2006.
During the same period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih saw a 31 percent increase in its finished steel output to 617,000 metric tons, a 24.4 percent increase in its crude steel
production to 724,000 metric tons, a 25.4 percent increase in its
pig iron production to 642,000 metric tons and a 15.8 percent increase in its agglomerate
production to 1.04 million metric tons year on year.
Finally, in January 2007
Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 1.6 percent, its crude steel
production by 4.7 percent, its
pig iron production by 2.4 percent and its agglomerate
production by 7.2 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 316,000, 378,000, 297,000 and 504,000.
