Ukraine’s iron ore imports and exports rise in Jan-Feb

According to data issued by the Ukrainian Association of Ore-dressing Enterprises (Ukrrudprom), in the first two months of this year the Ukrainian steelmakers increased their imports of iron ore by 2.3 times to 613,600 mt, while the Ukrainian mining companies raised their iron ore exports by 73 percent to 5.025 million mt, both compared to the same period last year.

In January-February 2010, Ukraine imported 434,400 mt of iron ore concentrate - up by 2.6 times year on year, 139,200 mt of sintered ore - up 38 percent year on year, and 40,000 mt of pellets, which was not imported during the same period last year. However, the Ukrainian steelmakers did not import agglomerate in the first two months of this year.

In February this year, Ukraine imported 327,500 mt of iron ore, including 237,200 mt of iron ore concentrate, 69,200 mt of sintered ore, and 21,100 mt of pellets.

On the other hand, during the first two months of 2010, Ukraine's exports of iron ore concentrate increased by 2.4 times year on year to 2.106 million mt, its exports of pellets went up by 20.3 percent to 1.631 million mt, while its exports of sintered ore climbed by 41.9 percent to 967,100 mt. In addition, in January-February this year, Ukraine also shipped 320,900 mt of agglomerate, which was not exported during the same period last year.

In February 2010, Ukrainian mining companies exported 2.333 million of iron ore, including 944,600 mt of iron ore concentrate, 806,800 mt of pellets, 434,000 mt of sintered ore and 147,600 mt of agglomerate.
