According to the data released by the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in the January-June period of the current year Ukraine exported 10.2 million mt of iron and steel products, down 26.6 percent year on year, worth a total of $4.2 billion, decreasing by 41.7 percent year on year.
In particular, in the given period Ukraine exported 8.3 million mt of rolled steel (including 3.8 million mt of semi-finished products), down 28 percent, 800,000 mt of pig iron, declining by 41 percent, and 395,000 mt of ferroalloys, down five percent, all on year-on-year basis.
In the January-June period this year, Ukrainian exports of flat steel products decreased by 30 percent, its exports of semi-finished products went down by 31 percent, and its exports of long steel products declined by 21 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
In addition, Ukrainian iron and exports in the first six months of the current year were equivalent to 85 percent of total domestic iron and steel production in the given period, while 46 percent of exported products were steel billets.
In the first six months of this year, Ukrainian iron and steel imports came to 305,000 mt, worth a total of $300 million. The main imported product was coated flat steel, which constituted 42 percent of the total steel import volume.
In the January-June period of the current year, exports of steel and iron products to CIS countries decreased by 45 percent to 1.01 million mt, including exports to Russia, which declined by 52 percent to 640,000 mt, both year on year.
