The Ukrainian flat steel producer Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) said that in 2011 it intends to unite its sheet rolling shop 3000 and its sheet rolling shop 4500, and also to combine four construction units.

Summarizing the merger of Ilyich with Ukrainian mining and steel producing company Metinvest which has been in effect for half a year, Ilyich's general director Vladimir Boyko said that only by means of the merger is the plant now able to continue to work uninterruptedly.

Ilyich's sheet rolling shop 3000 includes a plate mill 3000, four continuous walking beam furnaces, roughing and finishing reversible four-high mill stands, dressing, cutting and marking machines, and apparatus for non-destructive testing. The shop produces plates of 6.0-60 mm thickness, 1,500-2,700 mm width, and of up to 12,000 mm in length (upon special requests - up to 24,000 mm).

Meanwhile, the plant's sheet rolling shop 4500 comprises a plate mill 4500, nine chamber furnaces, two-high roll mill stand, plate dressing and cutting machines, and nine heat-treating furnaces. The shop produces carbon, low-alloyed and alloyed steel sheets and plates of 25-400 mm x 1,500-3,600 mm x 6,000-12,000 mm in size.
