The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (ACU) has decided to inspect reports heard last week about the acquisition of Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) by Cypriot companies representing unnamed Russian investors.

As reported, on May 26 this year a representative of Cyprus-based Formigos Holding Ltd, Boris Podolsky, and a representative of Rewein Ltd, Ilya Gorn, who described themselves as representatives of the new owner of Ilyich, said that in May 2009 a Russian metallurgical concern had bought 100 percent shares in ZAO Ilyich-Stal, the company that owns a 90.41 stake in Ilyich steel plant.

Meanwhile, CEO Vladimir Boyko denied reports of the sale of the company, alleging a raider attack on the enterprise.
