According to the data for January 2010, Ukrainian exports of steel pipes decreased by 4.9 percent to 60,300 mt (including 27,040 mt of seamless pipes - up 2.1 times, and 33,300 mt of welded pipes - down 34.2 percent), while the country's semi-finished steel product exports dropped by 7.5 percent to 838,320 mt (including 328,500 mt of slabs - up four times, and 509,500 mt of square billets - down 37.8 percent), all compared to the same period last year.
During the first month of 2010, Ukraine's exports of long steel increased by 84.5 percent year on year and by 20.7 percent month on month to 543,000 mt, including 255,200 mt of rebar - up 40.2 percent year on year, and 169,600 mt of wire rod - up 2.85 times year on year. The leading buyer of Ukraine's longs exports was Russia with 59,940 mt.
Meanwhile, the country's January exports of flat rolled steel increased by 21 percent year on year and by six percent month on month to 533,490 mt (including 408,520 mt of HR products - up 14.9 percent, and 66,850 mt of CR products - down 9.3 percent, both compared to December 2009). In January 2010, the leading buyer of Ukraine's flats exports was Turkey with 81,470 mt of HR products and 16,280 mt of CR products, followed by Russia with 61,630 mt of HR products and 11,170 mt of CR products. Also, a significant supply of flats was sent last month to Lebanon, with 36,620 mt of HR products and 6,670 mt of CR products.
In addition, in January 2010, Ukraine decreased its pig iron exports by 4.7 percent to 84,450 mt, but increased its coke exports by 16.5 percent to 98,450 mt, raised its scrap exports by 2.1 times to 29,900 mt, and upped its iron ore exports by 2.7 times to 2.592 million mt, all compared to January 2009.
