According to the data for 2009, Ukrainian exports of steel pipes decreased by 23.8 percent to 1.378 million mt, the country's semi-finished steel product exports dropped by 8.5 percent to 11.5 million mt, exports of flat rolled steel decreased by 26.5 percent to about 6.05 million mt, and exports of long steel dropped by 12.2 percent to 4.924 million mt, all compared to 2008.
In addition, in 2009 Ukraine registered a 22 percent decrease year on year in its ferroalloy exports to 774,570 mt, a 6.3 percent decline in its pig iron exports to 1.38 million mt, and an 8.5 percent decrease in its coke exports to 922,030 mt, all compared to 2008.
Meanwhile, Ukraine increased its iron ore exports by 21.3 percent year on year to 27.62 million mt and its scrap exports by 40.2 percent year on year to 883,280 mt.
On the other hand, in 2009 Ukraine imported 211,400 mt of long steel products - down 56.5 percent, 504,000 mt of flat steel products - down 64 percent (including 91,530 mt of HRC and 48,980 mt of CRC - down 83.7 and 70.8 percent respectively), 247,330 mt of semi-finished products - down 36.3 percent, 39,410 mt of pipes - down 61.4 percent, 249,520 mt of coke - down 79.7 percent, 2.335 million mt of iron ore - down 16.3 percent, and 11,660 mt of pig iron - down 91 percent, all compared to 2008.
