Turkish motor vehicle sales up 59 percent in January-May

According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first five months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 359,271 units, rising by 59 percent year on year. Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 233,032 units in the given period, improving by 61.6 percent year on year
In May alone, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 84,862 units, while passenger car sales rose to 56,302 units, increasing respectively by 37.7 percent and 39.1 percent year on year.

In January-May period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 346,643 units, up 4.7 percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 194,318 units, down 3.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis. The revenue for these exports sales totaled $7.7 billion for total motor vehicle exports, rising by 14.1 percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports was $2.8 billion, down 0.9 percent, compared to the first five months of 2010.

In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle imports increased by 65.1 percent year on year, while its passenger car imports rose by 64.4 percent, totaling 215,052 units and 161,295 units respectively.
