According to the statistics provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in September Turkey's total steel product exports amounted to 1.33 million metric tons, decreasing by 22.23 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $824 million, decreasing by 61.83 percent compared to September 2008.
Meanwhile, in September this year Turkey's steel product export volume increased by five percent compared to the data for August, while the export revenue increased by 2.19 percent month on month.
In the January-September period of the current year total steel product exports of Turkish mills slid 12.69 percent year on year to 13.99 million metric tons, totaling a value of $8.17 billion, which is 50.35 percent lower than for the corresponding period of 2008.
In September this year, Turkey's steel product exports to the Middle East, its largest market for steel exports, amounted to 369,000 metric tons, decreasing by 61.83 percent year on year, totaling a value of $225 million, down 81.67 percent year on year. Turkey's steel product exports to Europe during the period came to 225,000 metric tons, down 45.49 percent year on year, with a value of $178 million - down 66.7 percent. Exports to North Africa amounted to 252,300 metric tons, up 39.90 percent year on year, with a value of $228 million, 32.1 percent lower than the September 2008 level.
In the month in question, Turkish steel product exports to Asia and Oceania totaled 273,000 metric tons, up 3,890 percent, with Asia thus becoming one of the major steel export markets of Turkey. In September, the country's exports to Africa reached 45,600 metric tons, up 5.42 percent, exports to the Americas amounted to 123,700 metric tons, up 31.56 percent, and, finally, exports to CIS countries totaled 37,400 metric tons, down 31.33 percent - all compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
