Turkey's steel billet imports down 10.6 percent in January-April

In April this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 6.38 percent year on year to 210,980 metric tons, down 3.76 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $113.25 million, down 12.33 percent year on year and decreasing by 3.21 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of this year Turkey imported 882,928 mt of billet and bloom, down 10.6 percent, with a value of $478.52 million, decreasing by 14.23 percent, both year on year.

In the first four months, Turkey imported 553,805 mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, 7.06 percent higher year on year, with Ukraine ranking first among Turkey's main billet and bloom import sources, ahead of Russia which supplied 255,737 mt in the given period, down 0.34 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in April this year Ukraine was also the leading source for Turkey's billet and bloom imports, supplying 150,186 mt, up 37.62 percent year on year.
