According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's seamless pipe imports rose significantly compared to the 14,979 mt recorded in the previous month and were up 87.4 percent compared to May 2011, amounting to 34,845 metric tons. The value of these imports totaled $49.5 million, more than double compared to April and up 39.5 percent year on year.
In the first five months of the year, Turkey's seamless pipe imports amounted to 98,097 metric tons, decreasing 3.65 percent compared to the same period of 2011. The value of these imports came to $149 million, decreasing by 12 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, Turkey's spirally welded tube exports in May this year totaled 10,705 mt, falling 39.5 percent compared to the previous month, while in the first five months of the current year Turkish spirally welded tube exports amounted to 71,287 mt, decreasing 13.6 percent compared to the same period of 2011. In May, the country's longitudinally welded tube exports totaled 108,246 mt, falling by 17.15 percent month on month, while in the first five months the longitunally welded tube exports of Turkey amounted to 614,658 mt, up 1.16 percent compared to the January-May period of 2011.
The value of Turkey's spirally welded and longitudinally welded tube exports in the first five months amounted to $81.4 million and $543 million respectively, decreasing by 1.1 percent and 7.1 percent year on year.
