Turkey’s scrap imports decreased in 2014 influenced by the decline in the raw steel output of Turkish electric arc furnace mills, according to the report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In 2014, Turkey’s scrap imports declined by 3.3 percent to 9.56 million mt, with a value of $7.15 billion, down 4.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the given year, Turkey’s scrap imports from EU countries declined by 4.6 percent to 10.24 million mt, while its scrap imports from the US increased by 48.8 percent to 3.67 million mt, both year on year.

In 2014, Turkey’s scrap imports from Russia increased to 2.08 million mt, up 37.2 percent, while its scrap imports from Ukraine reached 849,000 mt, up 216.7 percent, with the CIS region thus increasing in importance as a source of scrap for the Turkish steel industry.
