Turkey’s rebar exports increase in May

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's rebar (including round bar) exports amounted to 742,596 metric tons, increasing by 33.4 percent year on year and up 22.8 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $483.6 million, rising by 34.4 percent compared to May 2011 and up 22.8 percent from the previous month.

On the other hand, in the first five months of the current year Turkey's rebar exports stood at 3.61 million metric tons, up 21.3 percent year on year, while the total revenue of these exports amounted to $2.3 billion, increasing by 22.5 percent as compared to January-May 2011.

In the January-May period this year, Turkey's rebar exports to the US, one of the largest rebar export destinations of Turkey, increased 57.6 percent, while rebar exports to the UAE decreased by 40 percent, both compared to the same period last year.
