In October, Turkey's steel billet export volume increased significantly over September, after decreasing during two consecutive months, while the average billet export price increased by 1.73 percent month on month. Turkey's billet export volume in October was the second highest monthly volume reached so far this year, at just 1.91 percent lower than the volume recorded in July.
According to the preliminary data released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in October Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 370,442 metric tons, increasing by 74.82 percent month on month, and up 191.52 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $162.94 million, up 100.56 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and increasing by 77.83 percent over September this year.
In October, the average export price of Turkish steel billet was $440/mt, up $7.46/mt or 1.73 percent from September levels, but indicating a decrease of $200/mt or 31.2 percent from $640/mt in October 2008.
On the other hand, in the January-October period of the current year, Turkey's steel billet exports decreased by 16.22 percent year on year to 1.92 million mt, totaling a value of $787.76 million, down 59.86 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
