In the second quarter of 2010, Turkish integrated long steel producer
Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (
Kardemir) posted a consolidated profit of TRY 35.8 million ($23.9 million) compared to a loss of TRY 25.7 million recorded in Q2 2009.
In the second quarter of this year,
Kardemir's sales revenues improved by 31.63 percent year on year to TRY 260.15 million ($173.63 million), while the quarter-on-quarter increase was 13.78 percent.
Meanwhile, in the first half of this year,
Kardemir registered a consolidated profit of TRY 42.56 million ($28.41 million), compared to a loss of TRY 46.48 million in the year-ago period, while its sales revenues amounted to TRY 488.78 million ($$326.29 million), rising by 21.6 percent year on year.
In the first half of 2010,
Kardemir's average sales price for steel billets improved by 18.7 percent to TRY 730/mt ($487/mt), while its average sale price for
rebar stood at TRY 811/mt ($507) - up 13.91 percent, its price for sections was TRY 973/mt ($650/mt) - up 6.57 percent, and its average sale price for rails amounted to TRY 1,509/mt ($1,000/mt) - down 20.83 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
In the January-June period of 2010,
Kardemir produced 357,100 mt of metallurgical coke - up 16.8 percent, 559,718 mt of crude steel - up 7.94 percent, and 21,282 mt of
pig iron - down 10.29 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in the period in question, the company's
billet output totaled 426,078 mt, increasing by 7.51 percent, while its bloom output amounted to 130,637 mt, rising by 1.2 percent, both compared to H1 2009.
In H1 2010,
Kardemir's finished steel output rose by 15.74 percent year on year to 357,537 mt. In the January-June period of this year,
Kardemir's
rebar output surged by 4.08 percent reaching 262,247 mt, its section
production decreased by 5.48 percent to 42,041 mt, while its rail product output totaled 47,594 mt - up 6.44 times, all compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Kardemir has one million mt of annual crude steel
production capacity, 120,000 mt of
pig iron output capacity and 900,000 mt of annual finished steel
production capacity.
