According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in July 2009 Turkey's monthly industrial production index decreased by 9.2 percent year on year to 110.3 compared to July 2008, while it increased by 0.9 percent compared to June 2009.
Among the various industrial sectors, the production index in the mining sector in July this year increased by 0.9 percent from 145.8 to 147.2, while the index for the manufacturing sector fell 10.5 percent from 118.6 to 106.2, both compared with the same month of the previous year. The index for the electricity, gas and water sector, on the other hand, decreased by 3.2 percent year on year, from 135.4 to 131.2.
Meanwhile, the highest decrease in the manufacturing index in July was realized in the manufacture of other transport equipment, marking a fall of 36 percent over the same month of the previous year, followed by the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers with a drop of 27.3 percent. On the other hand, an increase of 36.5 percent was registered in the manufacture of radio, TV and communication apparatus compared to July 2008.
In July this year, the index for the manufacture of basic metals fell to 115.8 from 138.8, while the index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products was down from 123.8 to 115.8, both compared to July 2008.
