The increased import duties on flat steel products in Turkey have come into force as of May 1. With the additional duties, the import duty on non-alloy hot rolled coil has been increased from nine percent to 15 percent, while the duty on alloyed hot rolled coil has risen from six percent to 13 percent. The import duties of 9 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent on plate have been raised to 15-20 percent, while non-alloy cold rolled coil attracts a 17 percent import duty instead of 10 percent. The import duties on galvanized and painted coil are at 20 percent. The duty on both hot rolled and cold rolled stainless steel coils remains unchanged.

The imposition of the increase in duties, which had been originally planned to enter into force on March 1, was postponed to April 1 and then to May 1, as additional HRC demand emerged from container housing construction as a result of the earthquakes on February 6, as SteelOrbis previously reported.
