Turkey’s flat steel imports fall 17.7 percent in Jan-Apr

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in April this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, rose by 5.7 percent compared to the previous month and were down 19.4 percent compared to April 2011, totaling 373,249 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $276.4 million, increasing by 3.7 percent as compared to March this year and down 27.2 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 1.47 million metric tons, decreasing 17.7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.

In the first four months of the current year, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 268,236 metric tons, decreasing by 11.7 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-April this year was Romania with 218,752 metric tons, up 26.4 percent compared to the first four months of 2011.
