Turkey’s Colakoglu Metalurji increases efficiency of electric arc furnace

Modernization works at the No. 1 electric arc furnace at the Gebze facilities of Colakoglu Metalurji, one of the leading steelmakers in Turkey, have been completed. Through the modernization works carried out by the German-based plantmaker Siemens VAI, the furnace is now 12 percent more efficient.

Accordingly, active power input has been increased by eight percent, while the electrical energy consumption has been reduced by six percent, increasing the overall productivity of the electric arc furnace by twelve percent.

The modernization works also included renewal of a large part of the mechanical equipment of the electric arc furnace.
