Turkey’s billet exports fall in April

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in April this year Turkey's steel billet exports amounted to 133,184 metric tons, decreasing by 60.7 percent compared to the previous month and down 45.3 percent compared to the same month of 2012.


 
The revenue generated by Turkey's steel billet exports in April totaled $75 million, decreasing 52.4 percent compared to March and down 41.75 year on year. According to the data released by TUIK, in April the average price of Turkey's steel billet exports stood at $565/mt, falling compared to the average of $549/mt recorded in March and $624/mt in April 2012.
 
In April of the current year, Turkey's steel billet exports to the Middle East, the main destination of Turkey's steel billet exports, rose 10.5 percent month-on-month to 75,949 mt, but were down 58.2 percent from the same month of the previous year. Iran, Turkey's second largest steel billet export destination in 2012, imported 939 mt of steel billet from Turkey in the month in question. North Africa's steel billet imports from Turkey amounted to 25,701 mt in April, falling sharply compared to the previous month which had seen the highest volume since April 2010, but was up 7.1 percent compared to the same month of 2012.
 
In the first four months of the year, Turkey's steel billet exports amounted to 884,749 mt, rising 46.4 percent compared to the same period of 2012, with a value of $488 million, up 21.1 percent year on year.
