The Turkish Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade has decided to implement an import inspection system on certain pipes and hollow sections.

According to a notice dated August 22, 2007, the Turkish Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade (DTM) will implement an import monitoring system for "other tubes, pipes and hollow profiles (for example, open seam or welded, riveted or similarly closed), of iron or steel" under tariff code 73.06. The new policy stipulates that importers must obtain a license to import the subject products at a price lower than a CIF value of 900 on US Dollar basis, regardless of country of origin.

In the announcement, it is also stated that the importers will be exempted from the inspection system for imports of less than 500 kg of material, regardless of its CIF value. The licenses will be effective for a six-month period.

The subject decree will become effective 30 days from its publication in the Official Gazette on August 22, 2007.
