As of October 1, natural gas prices for industrial users and power plants in Turkey have increased by 20 percent, according to Turkey’s Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ), which stated that the rising tariffs were due to market conditions, the country’s economic conditions, market price stability and costs.

The natural gas prices for residential users have not been changed. BOTAŞ noted that Turkish residential users are subject to the lowest natural gas prices among European countries after Ukraine.

Meanwhile, as of October 1, electricity prices for industrial and commercial users will be increased by 20 percent, as SteelOrbis previously reported. The new hikes in natural gas and electricity tariffs will further exacerbate difficulties for Turkish steel producers, who are already facing high production costs and reduced competitiveness in export markets.
