Toyota's plans to extend automotive production cuts at its US and Canadian operations because of a shortage of Japanese parts related to the 9.0 earthquake that struck Japan on March 11.

Toyota had planned to suspend production on Monday and Fridays, and only run at 50 percent of normal production on Tuesdays through Thursdays until April 25. However, Toyota has announced that the production cutbacks will be extended until June 3.

Additionally, plants in Canada will be closed the week of May 23 in observance of the Victoria Day holiday and US production will be halted the week of May 30 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Both late-May production suspensions were previously planned.
