Tokyo Steel to build new EAF plant

Japanese steel producer Tokyo Steel Manufacturing announced plans to build a new electric arc furnace (EAF) plant in Aichi. Sources report that the new EAF plant will be one of the largest EAF steel making plants in the country. The plant will mainly produce flat steel products for the automotive sector as well as steel products for the construction sector. The plant will be designed to have an annual production capacity of over 2 million tons. The construction is scheduled to start in April 2007 while the commissioning is expected to take place in April 2009.
